About Charlotte

With over 12 years’ experience teaching breath and movement, many disciplines inform my work, which focuses on a practice of slow exploratory and mindful movement as a way to build internal awareness and a firm sense of self.

I offer an approach that blends together the ancient techniques of yoga with contemplative somatic movement principles and practices all through the model of shared inquiry.

Shared inquiry is a model that actively engages you, as the student, in your own experiential learning, it gives you the ability to answer the question “what do I feel and where do I feel it when I do a movement or posture?” This helps you to learn how to attune to your own internal awareness, to notice and read the signals of your body, to pay attention to them and, even more importantly, to know what to do with them.

Built on the principles of curiosity, exploration and self inquiry, it is a practice that aims to cultivate a sense of self trust and personal agency.

I came to the retreat to de stress and I got so much more out of it. I relearned asana as a steady comfortable position one that does not disrupt the peace within. I learnt that taking time to explore a pose was beneficial to my breath and body connection. Charlotte style is unique, and this adds value to those with immobility issues as her therapy techniques are effective.

About the venue

Kaomai Lanna Resort is perfect for the true nature lover. Surrounded by a big, beautiful tropical garden in Chiang Mai, the resort features unique rooms converted from real tobacco curing barns and furnished with colonial style antique furniture.

50 years ago the tobacco industry in the northern part of Thailand reached its peak, and tobacco farms and curing barns flourished. But time passed and things changed. 30 years later other developments came; the tobacco curing barns faded from the northern part of Thailand, replaced by orchards and real-estate projects. Most of the barns were destroyed but it was decided that at least a few reminders from the old days should be remain. So 18 old barns were converted into 36 lively guestrooms in a peaceful garden and became known as the charming Kaomai Lanna Resort.

The retreat was an awakening for me and an opportunity to learn and listen to my body. I loved the way Charlotte was able to adapt the practices for all the different levels of experience in the Sala and always felt supported - it was a beautiful and grounding experience

MORE ABOUT CHARLOTTE

Charlotte is an experienced yoga therapist; certified by the IAYT, and trained by the Wisdom Institute of Yoga who offer trauma informed, evidence based yoga therapy programmes.

Charlotte is originally from the UK but has lived in Hong Kong with her family for 13 years. She believes passionately that the practice of yoga is not just about physical well-being, but rather a much more holistic wellness approach. It’s about finding a sense of ease within the body. She offers a truly collaborative approach that is not bound to any one system or method of yoga. Instead, Charlotte brings together a unique combination of postural yoga, breath-work, somatics, meditation and mindfulness.

Charlotte believes that a practice of mindful movement is integral to developing a capacity to be aware of our internal state and therefore our ability to chose what to focus on. These tools range from simple and easy to do developmental movements to complex mobility tasks as a way to ‘wake up’ the brain without strain or injury. When incorporated into our lives, mindful movement can help us to build the tools and resources for resilience as well as help us to access greater levels of pleasure and joy in our lives.
