SEEDS OF POTENTIAL

The season of winter may be short for us here in the tropics, but I am glad for it, for it is a reminder that change is a fabulous and fresh thing if we allow it. Seasons are cycles - and so are our own internal processes, our external processes, our connections with others, and even our connection with work, effort, & exercise. And our ability to cycle through different states of being is what makes us resilient, and resourceful, it is what connects us to the universal rhythms of nature and allows us to live in harmony with all those around us.

Living in a hot and energetic city, such as Hong Kong, is something that I love, and yet, in the same way that if you stand in the sun for too long, you will burn, if you always face outwards to the world, then you will burn out. Taking time to go inwards, to replenish and nourish the system is an essential part of living in balance.

Like a seed, in order to grow, we need to spend some time in the dark and the dirt, gathering our energy, before slowly starting to extend roots down into the ground and emerging gently into the sunlight.

As my teacher says to me in practice all the time,

“GO IN, TO GO OUT”.

Here is to spring and its tender roots - may you find steadiness in your body and spaciousness in your breath

❓If you are interested, here is a short inquiry to work with ❓

VISUALISE YOURSELF AS A SEED

  • How does it feel to get ready to grow?

  • What part of the seed starts to move first?

  • What’s it like to start to reach out to the sun, but also root down into the soil beneath?

Credit to my dear friend Katie Flowers of Wild at Art Studio for this glorious POTENTIAL oracle card that I pulled earlier this week.

Increasingly it is being recognised that interoception is a key mechanism to your mental and physical health, where understanding your body’s signals helps you understand and regulate emotional and physical states. It is one of your most important senses and by learning to listen to your body, you can start to feel physically sturdier and more capable to deal with threats – which in turn will bolster your sense of self-esteem and mental resilience.

Somatic movement is a practice of body sensing and feeling, it teaches us how to tune into the natural rhythms of our body and to move intuitively from a place of knowing. It is a practice that I love and take great strength from. It has not replaced my yoga practice, instead I have interwoven this incredible art of sensing and feeling not just into my movement practice, but also into my life.

I would love to invite you into a short practice with me. It is a practice of finding your centre, travelling outwards and returning back.

It is a short sensing and moving practice of Going In to Go Out - I hope you enjoy it.
